I love to garden in the short growing seasons we have in New England. In the spring and summer that’s where you’ll find me – usually very grubby – working on some new project outside. I mostly grow perennial flowers and have potted herbs on the back patio. I’ll find almost any excuse to cook with the fresh herbs – there’s something about them that is invigorating. The same goes for blending them into smoothies! In this strawberry orange basil smoothie, sweet strawberries balance nicely with the orange citrus, and the hint of basil will make you want to come back for more.
Did you know basil is considered one of the healthiest herbs? It’s packed with vitamins and antioxidants and has anti-inflammatory properties. It’s also known to have anti-bacterial properties.
Oranges are rich in the dietary fiber pectin and are an excellent source of vitamin C – which is an antioxidant vitamin. Strawberries are also have very high antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.
