I’m always looking for different ways to thicken and boost the nutrition of my smoothies. This strawberry oat nut smoothie is wonderfully tasty and does just that.
If you haven’t tried oats in your smoothies, I highly recommend it. They make a great thickener and are practically tasteless (just a very mild nutty flavor) so they go with any smoothie.
Oats also add many nutritional benefits to your smoothie. They are very high in fiber which helps stabilize blood sugar levels, lower cholesterol, and boost energy. The fiber in oats can also help with weight loss because it keeps you feeling full for longer – so you tend to eat less between meals.

I used vanilla flavored protein powder for this recipe. If you aren’t going to, I recommend adding the 1/2 tsp of vanilla powder or extract. I prefer vanilla powder over extract because I don’t care for the alcohol taste in the extract. If you’re buying vanilla powder, by sure to get raw vanilla powder (it’ll be black/brown) and not one that’s flavored with sweeteners. The flavored or sweetened vanilla powders are generally white, which is not the natural vanilla powder color.
I also added 1 tsp of coconut oil because I personally like the flavor of coconut oils combined with the other ingredients. For me, it adds a bit of warmth to the flavor. You can skip this is you want.
This strawberry oat nut smoothie is thick, rich, creamy, and tastes amazing. And it’s really good for you.
How great is that?
Oats are a healthy thickener to add to any smoothie. They blend well with any smoothie flavor because of their very mild nutty taste. Oats are loaded with fiber, which can help with weight loss (they help keep you full for longer), stabilize blood sugar levels, lower cholesterol, prevent constipation, and boost energy.
Strawberries have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory health benefits, and are rich in vitamin C, fiber, and manganese. They also have cardiovascular benefits, and help to control blood sugar.
Walnuts are a fantastic source of omega-3 fats (healthful fats). They are higher in calories but are low on the glycemic index scale, helping you to feel fuller longer.
