Summertime in a glass! This orange vanilla smoothie tastes like an orange creamsicle, but is so much better for you.
Did you know vanilla contains powerful antioxidants and has anti-inflammatory properties? Combined with the loads of vitamin C that oranges contain this smoothie can help you fight off the flu, cold, and other infections.
I like to use vanilla powder in my smoothies because I prefer the flavor over vanilla extract. The alcohol in the extract is too strong for my taste.
If you are going to buy vanilla powder, I highly recommend getting raw, natural vanilla powder instead of the vanilla sweeteners that are available. That way you get the actual yummy taste of vanilla without all the artificial flavors and sweeteners.
Note that raw, natural vanilla powder is black-brown in color – just like a vanilla bean. The artificial vanilla sweeteners will often be white or cream colored.

Orange Vanilla Smoothie
- 1 cup fresh orange (about 1 large orange), peeled and seeds removed
- 1/2 tsp vanilla powder (or 1/4 tsp vanilla extract)
- 1 tsp orange zest
- 1/4 cup beans (optional) I used white for the color but you can use any color bean
- 1 serving vanilla protein powder (optional, the one I use can be found here)
- 1/2 cup water
- 4 to 5 ice cubes
For extra fiber add 1 tbsp chia seeds.
Put all ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth.
Pour into your favorite glass and enjoy!
