For some reason spinach gets all the attention when it comes to mild tasting greens in smoothies. There are several leafy greens that are mild tasting and packed with nutrients.
Romaine lettuce is the perfect addition to this light and refreshing kiwi strawberry chia green smoothie. It’s so mild you probably won’t even notice it.

Kiwis are packed with more vitamin C than the equivalent amount of orange and are loaded with vitamin K. Vitamin C is a water-soluble antioxidant that can neutralize free radicals and helps support the immune system. Kiwis are a good source of the mineral potassium.
Kiwis also contain a good amount of dietary fiber. Fiber is helpful in keeping blood sugar levels under control and for keeping you feeling full for longer.
Strawberries are packed with vitamin C. One serving contains more vitamin C than an orange. They have a unique combination of antioxidant and anti-inflammatory nutrients providing cardiovascular support and improved blood sugar regulation.

In the world of lettuce, romaine is king when it comes to nutrients. Romaine lettuce is an excellent source of vitamin K, vitamin A, and folate. It also is a very good source of fiber, manganese, potassium, copper, iron, vitamin B1, and vitamin C.
Romaine lettuce is crisp and mild tasting. It’s an excellent choice for people new to green smoothies because it will be hard to taste it. Because of its mild flavor, it can be blended into any smoothie.

Kiwi Strawberry Chia Green Smoothie
- 1 kiwi, peeled
- 1/2 cup strawberries, fresh or frozen
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 1 tbsp chia seeds
- 1 cup Romaine lettuce, packed
- 1/2 tsp vanilla powder or extract (optional, skip this if you are using vanilla protein powder)
- 1 serving vanilla protein powder (optional, the one I use can be found here)
- 3/4 cup water (more if using frozen fruit)
- 4 to 5 ice cubes (skip if using frozen fruit)
Put all ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth.
Pour into your favorite glass and enjoy!
