If you haven’t tried chia seeds in a smoothie, this hazelnut blackberry chia green smoothie is the perfect excuse to try them. If you have used chia seeds in smoothies before, you already know how awesome they are.
Chia seeds are an amazing smoothie thickener. When they get wet they absorb the liquid and form a gel-like substance around them, thickening your smoothie.
For this smoothie, I added the dry chia seeds to the blender with the other ingredients. You can also soak them first or mix them in after your smoothie is blended. You can learn more about how to use chia seeds in smoothies here.
The protein and fiber in the chia seeds and other ingredients will fill you up fast and keep you feeling full for a long time. This can help you lose weight because you may end up eating less in between meals.
Blackberries have high amounts of dietary fiber and are a great source of vitamin E, vitamin C, vitamin A, vitamin K and pectin. Blackberries are low in calories at only 62 calories per cup. The fiber in blackberries will help keep you feeling full for longer.

Hazelnut Blackberry Chia Green Smoothie
- 3/4 cup blackberries, fresh or frozen
- 1 tbsp chia seeds
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1/8 cup hazelnuts or almonds
- 1 cup spinach, packed
- 1/4 tsp vanilla powder or extract (optional, skip this if you are using vanilla protein powder)
- 1 serving vanilla protein powder (optional, the one I use can be found here)
- 3/4 cup water
- 4 to 5 ice cubes (skip if using frozen fruit)
Put all ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth.
Pour into your favorite glass and enjoy!
