When I’m experimenting with new smoothie recipes, I’m often (usually) inspired by the flavors in desserts. One of my favorite things about smoothies is the amazing flavor combination possibilities that just keep me wanting to make more. And, of course, drink more!
I mean really. If I can basically have the flavors of dessert for a meal AND that meal is good for me – why the heck not? Eating healthy is not a punishment. It should be a treat!
This cranberry strawberry green smoothie was inspired by one of my favorite pie flavor combinations. It’s a delightful combination of sweet and tart with a touch of cinnamon.
Oh, I also added spinach to make it super healthy. And, of course, protein powder to make it more satiating. This smoothie is going to fill you up and keep you feeling full for a long time.
Strawberries are packed with vitamin C. One serving contains more vitamin C than an orange. They have a unique combination of antioxidant and anti-inflammatory nutrients providing cardiovascular support and improved blood sugar regulation.
Cranberries are extremely high in antioxidants. They also have anti-inflammatory properties that can help prevent inflammation around the gums, stomach, large intestine (colon) and cardiovascular system. Cranberries are also known to help prevent urinary tract infections (UTIs) by not allowing bacteria to stick to the lining of the bladder and ureters.
Spinach has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant health benefits, and is loaded with vitamins and minerals. It is also a great source of fiber and protein – both help to make you feel fuller faster and longer.
